The Start-Up Visa program is a program for entrepreneurs/businessmen who wish to immigrate to Canada and have businesses and businesses that are revolutionary in Canada, can provide jobs for Canadians, and have the potential and ability to compete on a global scale. This is a federal immigration program targeting entrepreneurs. When applying for permanent residency with a startup visa, you can also apply for a short-term work permit (employment visa) while your Permanent Residency is being processed, so you can start working in advance while waiting for your Permanent Residency.

*An application letter and letter of recommendation from a designated institution are required (can be checked from the list of designated institutions)

STEP 1: When receiving a support letter from a designated organization

  • Each applicant holds at least 10% of the voting rights granted to all shares of the corporation issued at the time (up to 5 people can apply as owners)
  • The applicant and the designated entity jointly own more than 50% of the total voting rights granted to all shares of the corporation then issued.

*Both of the above must be met

STEP 2: When receiving permanent residency

  • Provide active and ongoing management of the business in Canada
  • An essential part of the business's operations must occur in Canada
  • The business is incorporated in Canada

  • Venture capital funds – minimum investment of $200,000 required
  • Angel investor groups – minimum investment consent of $75,000 required
  • Business incubators – Approval required for this program
